domestic violence in brooklyn

The community of Brooklyn is devastated after learning more about a domestic violence attack that left a 55-year-old resident fatally wounded. According to initial reports, the victim, Cynthia McLeod, was walking towards a deli that’s across from her home when she was approached by an ex-boyfriend. Nearby witnesses confirmed that the man and woman began arguing loudly in the street just after 11 A.M.

As things escalated, the suspect reportedly pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Cynthia in the street. Cynthia was able to escape the situation and run into the nearby deli for cover and help.

Her ex-boyfriend allegedly attempted to follow her into the store as she was bleeding from her neck and torso. Staff immediately reached out to the police, who responded to the scene as quickly as they could. Upon arriving, they found the suspect still armed with a knife. The ex-boyfriend is now facing multiple charges including criminal possession of a weapon and murder.

Domestic Violence: False Accusations are on the Rise

Clearly, the story above is a devastating example of what happens when domestic violence situations do not get addressed and the real victim isn’t supported.

Believe it or not, over 20 million Americans have been falsely accused of abuse. False reporting of abuse is an extremely devastating action that has severe repercussions for both the victim, the victim’s family, and society at large. False accusations only work to further discredit real victims of abuse.

If you’ve recently been falsely accused of domestic violence, then it’s crucial to get in touch with a lawyer ASAP. While you may know the truth of the situation, you can’t rely on a judge or jury’s ability to see through the manipulator’s tactics. Instead, you need to focus on constructing a solid defense strategy. A failure to do so could result in significant penalties including significant fines, imprisonment, probation, and more. Further, you’ll have a criminal record that will likely limit your future opportunities and relationships.

Do You Need a Criminal Defense Attorney?

Domestic violence is a huge genderless issue. If you or a loved one are currently experiencing domestic abuse, then it’s crucial for you to start developing an exit strategy. Domestic violence rarely gets tamer as the years progress. Instead, it usually escalates until the cycle is stopped for good.

One way to stop the cycle is to pursue criminal charges against your abuser. Remember, controlling people do not respond to empathy. They respond to consequences.

If you’ve currently been unfairly accused of domestic violence, though, then you’re in a very precarious position. Domestic violence is a hot topic issue, and many individuals will believe your abuser, especially if they’re skilled at playing the victim. The good news is that our highly trained criminal defense attorneys can help you get the evidence you need to disprove any domestic violence charges and help you walk free from the situation.
